Daylily winter care
Help evergreen daylilies (Hemerocallis hybrids) get through winter! In frost-free regions, evergreen types, such as ‘Christmas Wishes’ here, keep growing.
Where winters drop below 32 degrees F, though, leaves will gradually die from the tip down to the crown, and frozen leaves turn to mush. Immediately cut the damaged foliage back to healthy tissue. If this wet material lays over the crown too long, it can rot it.
While the roots will survive in cold zones, it’s a good idea to mulch them for the winter with straw or loose leaves.
